Airbrushed apparel isn’t a screen print. The paint sits on the fabric rather than soaking into it, so it can crack, fade, or lift right off if it gets washed like an ordinary shirt. Treat it the way you’d treat a paint job and it’ll stay sharp for years.
Always. This one habit does more than everything else combined — the artwork never rubs against the drum or the rest of the load.
Heat is what makes airbrush paint go brittle and crack. Cold wash, every time, no exceptions.
Delicate or hand-wash setting. Skip bleach, skip anything with brighteners, and skip fabric softener — softener leaves a film that dulls the colors.
Keep it away from jeans, zippers, hooks, and anything with hardware. Denim in particular will sand the finish right down over time.
The dryer is where airbrushed apparel goes to die — heat and tumbling together will crack a design fast. Hang it indoors or somewhere shaded; direct sunlight fades the pigment.
Iron inside out, on low, and never let the iron touch the painted area directly. Put a thin cotton cloth or pressing sheet between the iron and the fabric. Steamers are safer than irons if you have one.
Got a small stain? Don’t put the whole garment through a wash. Dab — don’t scrub — with a damp cloth and a drop of mild soap, working from the outside of the spot inward. Let it air dry completely.
Hang it rather than folding it. A fold that sits creased for months can crack along the crease line. If you have to fold, lay a sheet of tissue paper over the artwork first so painted surfaces never press against each other.
Ornaments, keychains, and earrings are 3D printed and hand-finished. Wipe them with a soft dry cloth. Keep them out of hot cars for long stretches — heat can soften the print — and avoid solvents or alcohol-based cleaners, which will strip the finish.
Stickers go on best over a clean, dry surface at room temperature. Wipe the spot with isopropyl alcohol first, let it dry fully, then apply and press from the center outward. Give it 24 hours before washing the vehicle, and skip the pressure washer on that panel.
